Hi everyone! I've been getting back into the swing of writing (FINALLY), and the muse has risen from her slumber. This makes me very happy! It makes writing soo much easier and much more fun when the muse feels like playing too. I wrote a WICKED AWESOME scene for Enemy Within the other day, and I sooo wish I could share it, but it's later on in the book and would be REALLY spoilery. Sorry, I don't mean to be evil (well, maybe a little), but I'll share something else with you. And this little tid-bit is something that I am just BURSTING with excitement over!!!
So when the muse comes out to play, she tells me all sorts of things and not just the stuff I need for the current book I'm working on. With Descended by Blood, she kept rattling off about the stuff that will come forth in Destiny's Blade (a separate book/series). I revealed the cover and talked about that project here.
Well, with Enemy Within, my muse has given me a new idea that I'm SUPER excited about. The scenes are just soo vivid in my mind, and with a couple of questions from my BFF KC Neal, I pretty much know all the major plot points that happen in the story. And it's going to be a Sci Fi/Dystopian. A little bit of a different combonation of genres, but it's gonna be AMAZING! I really have a good feeling about this one. ;)
And now, I give to you...THE COVER!!!!!!
Old Version Updated Version (Changed my name's font)
*Title & cover are subject to change
(But I really dig these ones lol )
*Edited the post to show the upgraded version ;)

I designed this one, so I'm interested to know what you all think! So comment and tell me your thoughts? ;)

OH MY.....
ReplyDeleteWOW!
That is gorgeous, Angeline!
Super excited, I LOVES me some sci-fi! This one is gonna be awesome!!
ReplyDeleteHi Angeline,
ReplyDeleteFound your site via Twitter. I really like the idea you're trying to communicate with the cover, but there are a few things that could use improvement.
The font choice does not match the picture. By this I mean, the font is a little too square-like where the picture is artsy. The effects are a little too much as well--maybe try a different placement with the author name. It's too close to the title of the book.
I really like the picture itself, but where the water is super realistic, the face is a little too painted to be real. I know you're going for a sci-fi feel, but maybe there is a better way to blend the realism of the water with the painted too-perfect human face. I really like the eyes, though. Have you experimented with re-sizing the image? Just wondering what that would look like too.
Anyway, that's my two cents!

Thanks Wendy! I'm glad you like it! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Yin!! I LOVE your faith in me!
Hi Clare! Thanks so much for your input. I really appreciate it. With the font, I wanted it to be blocky like that. I played around with some different fonts, and none of them gave the same "feel" as this one did for what I'm going for with the story. I also moved my name to the bottom, but it covers up the water and distracts the eye from the wave coming off her chin. As for her face, I didn't do anything to paint the image, other than changing her eye color. And I'm actually glad that you mention her face looks perfect. That goes along GREAT with what the story is about. ;) Thanks for your input. I'll keep playing with the font.
I love this cover!!! So awesome! :) And I would love to read this story, sounds really cool!!
ReplyDeleteI like it. As others have said, I recommend using a different font. A nice sans-serif font could still look appropriately scifi but come across much more professionally. Personally, I would do something like this: http://i.imgur.com/R5umP.jpg
ReplyDeleteIt makes both your name and title pop, even in teeny thumbnail size as it will be on Amazon, and it has a funky futuristic look. Also, it brings out her eyes a bit, because "water" and "Kace" are the same color. :)
Just so you know, I spent way too long playing with that when I have actual covers to be making, haha.
I do think your story would be perfectly successful with the image you've made, though.
I think the original font was better :) I am a big fan of "If there are words, I better be able to read them." In the smaller font, it's a lot harder for me to read your name in the thumbnail - and remember, your name is your brand! :)
ReplyDeleteYA: Cheat, Liar, Coward, Thief, Thug
Fiction: Shackled
Shorts: Disappear, Hooded
I can't wait! I love sci-fi/dystopian books. Btw, the cover is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWoah, check out those blue eyes! Nice! And I like how the water is running UP instead of down.

I think its cool angeline! seems to go with the book. Congrads and cant wait! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Angeline
ReplyDeleteWow She's gorgeous, I would add slight blue in the background to pick up the colour in her eyes more?
You have great taste !
